Are Digital Devices Damaging Your Eyes?
Before digital devices and curlicue light bulbs, the only source of blue light that was a concern was the sun. With our current round-the-clock use of digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers, our eyes are exposed to an unnaturally high amount of blue light.
How blue light harms a child's eyes
According to a recent National Eye Institute (NEI) funded study, children’s eyes absorb more blue light than adults from digital device screens. This light affects a child’s eyes in three ways:
- Blue light exposure at night can cause interruption to a child’s sleep patterns by sending a signal to the brain to turn off the production of melatonin, thereby keeping a child awake.
- Blue light exposure can put a daily stress on your child’s eyes leaving them red, itchy, and tired.
- Blue light exposure can affect a child’s long-term vision causing damage to the macula (back of the eye).
Special glasses can help reduce blue light exposure
